The 2021 Honda Civic

Published on Oct 28, 2025 by Brianna White

When you search “Honda dealer near me,” you are taking the first step to finding out where you can find the most reliable, exciting, and popular vehicles. Honda builds cars for families and car enthusiasts alike, and one model, in particular, has generated a lot of buzz. That vehicle is the 2021 Honda Civic. Like clockwork, Honda continues to churn out a new Civic each model year, and in the spring of 2021, we are expecting to see the all-new 11th generation Civic make it to the market. But before that happens, there is a lot to know about what will be new or different for this version of the popular subcompact car. So today, we at Ralph Honda are going to go over some of the nitty-gritty details of the 2021 Civic. Let’s jump into it.

The 10th Generation Civic

Before we look at the many possible changes we are expecting for the all-new 2021 Honda Civic, we need to do two things. First, we need to note that not all of the information about the upcoming Civic has been released yet. While there is some useful info out there and Honda has made several announcements, not all of the hard numbers and specs are available just yet. However, the second thing we need to do will help us fill in the blanks on the new Civic, and that is taking a moment to reflect on the 10th version.

The 10th generation Civic is a high-ranking subcompact sedan that is available in five different trims, has a number of engines and transmissions available, and is offered as either a sedan, hatchback, or coupe. The Civic has spectacular safety ratings, a fuel economy that makes other subcompacts jealous, and is predicted to be reliable for years to come and take little maintenance all along the way. No matter what the 2021 Honda Civic ends up being like, with the pedigree it is being built off of; it is a safe guess that it is going to be stunning.

Additionally, when you consider the scope of the changes the last time the Civic was redone, you’ll most likely get a decent idea of what Honda has in store for the 2021 Civic. In many respects, the 10th generation Civic that was released in 2016 was an upgrade over earlier versions. The engine went from being able to produce 143 hp to a more robust 158 hp on the base model and up to 174 hp for the turbocharged and 205 hp with the available 1.5L engine on the Civic Si model.

Will the 2021 Civic Get a New Engine?

While we don’t know the answer to that question definitively yet, we can guess that either way, the new Civic will have more power. While there might not be a complete transformation on all trims, one thing we could hope for is that the 174 hp turbocharged engine trickles its way to the lower models, and the 205 horsepower 1.5L engine follows suit. If that is the case, the 2021 Civic will have even more zip and be even more fun to drive than previous generations.

Will the Civic Coupe Be Available on the 2021 Version?

One thing we do know for sure is that Honda is discontinuing the Civic Coupe. The company has stated that the hatchback version of the Civic has been stifling coupe sales, and with coupes becoming a thing of the past throughout North America, the coupe is only going to be produced through 2020.

The Civic Si is going to remain in the 10th generation for this upcoming model year. However, it is said that it will be revamped for the following year. And finally, the ultra-exciting Honda Civic Type R will also remain a 10 generation Civic for 2021, though it too could see upgrades and even a complete redo after that. That being said, there will be a few tweaks on the limited Type R’s that are made for the new year. While it won’t be a complete overhaul, the 2021 Type R is sure to impress.

What about Price?

Even though we can’t know the price of the all-new Honda Civic until Honda announces it and the complete list of specs and features, we can still have a decent guess. Best estimates of the starting price for the 2021 Civic are in the $22,000 range, although it will definitely go up with each trim, and if you decide to go for some of the features, that will no doubt cost extra. However, it is worth noting that this estimated $22,000 price tag is a great deal and worth every penny for one of the most reliable, best-performing subcompacts.

When Will it Be Available?

It almost goes without saying that all plans these days need to be held loosely, and that is the case when it comes to the Honda Civic. Earlier in the year, there was hope that the 2021 Civic would be released sometime at the end of 2020. Now the latest intel puts the unveiling of the all-new Civic closer to spring of 2021. While we can’t be sure of the release date as of yet, the best way to stay informed is to check in with your local Honda dealer regularly. No matter when it is released, it will be worth the wait.

What about Safety and Fuel Efficiency?

While the specs and latest numbers on safety and fuel efficiency have yet to be released by Honda, it is again helpful to look at the 2020 version for guidance. And since we know that Honda is not in the habit of going backward, we can assume things will be at least slightly better with the 2021 Civic.

The good news is that with Honda Sensing, the 2020 Civic is one of the safest cars on the road and boasts lane-keep assist and a litany of other advanced safety features. When you combine all of that with its optional LED headlights, the Civic is simply unbeatable when it comes to safety.

The story is pretty much the same when it comes to fuel efficiency: great. The 2020 Civic is one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its class, making it an extremely economical and climate-friendly vehicle. And, again, we can only imagine that this will be further improved for the 2021 models. Honda does not take steps back.
