Whether you’ve heard a lot about the 2024 Honda Prologue or this is your first time, we wanted to present you with some reasons why we believe drivers like yourself will find buying a Prologue to be the best decision you can make. This 2024 model is the first-ever Honda Prologue for sale, and it differentiates itself from the rest of Honda’s lineup because it’s fully electric.
You’ll soon find that buying Honda’s first BEV may be a life-changing endeavor, and if you’ve been waiting for Honda to throw its hat in the ring before stepping into the world of EVs, then you’ll be pleased to know your waiting has paid off. Let’s begin with some of the things we believe you and other drivers will love about the 2024 Honda Prologue…
Your New Morning Itinerary
Whether it was years ago, riding in your mother’s or father’s car, or every time you’ve driven since getting your license, you’ve always considered gas stations to be a necessity. Some people even make two to three gas trips a week, but the fact remains that all of your gas station trips have demanded that you drive out of your way to get there. No higher power dictates that you need to visit a gas station to fill your tank, but where else would you get gasoline? We visit them because they have what our cars need, and our cars need gas.
The 2024 Honda Prologue is one of those vehicles that’ll forever change your itinerary and make gas station visits optional for the first time in your life. Sure, you’ll still visit the gas station for anything else—lottery tickets, road trip snacks, an ATM—but no longer will you be driving there to use the pump. Instead, you’ll have everything you need either at home or in places where it’s more convenient for you, like shopping centers or parking lots. The secret sauce behind the 2024 Honda Prologue is electricity.
With an electric powertrain, you can top off your battery at home while you sleep, watch TV, or eat dinner; any time your car is parked at home, you can keep it fully charged and ready to go. Imagine you had a fresh tank of gas when you were leaving for work every morning—literally, every morning. Think about what you could do with that extra time added to your daily commute: you can grab breakfast or a coffee, or you could simply sleep for another ten minutes. Ultimately, convenience is the name of the game with the Prologue, and everyone loves convenience.
Did Someone Say “Tax Credits?”
One part of owning an EV we believe doesn’t get enough recognition is your entitlement to special tax credits after purchasing a brand-new EV. The IRS has stated that you can get a $7,500 tax credit with applicable purchases as long as you’re not using the vehicle for professional use, and your income must not exceed a certain amount. However, the majority of drivers are eligible for this tax credit, so it’s worth checking your eligibility.
The total of $7,500 is after applying a few factors, including the size of your battery. Although all $7,500 isn’t always guaranteed, the IRS claims your tax credit will be at least $3,751. $2,500 of this amount is guaranteed regardless because it’s the “standard base amount,” simply rewarded for making the purchase.
The total tax credit you get will always be more than that because you’ll get an additional $417 since this battery exceeds 7 kWh, and you’ll get an extra $417 for every kWh increase over 5 kWh until you hit the cap tax credit of $7,500. The 85-kWh battery in the 2024 Prologue can easily help you acquire the full credit, so you may want to look into finding out your eligibility because not many vehicles can ensure money back, but that’s the direction we’re headed thanks to EVs like the 2024 Prologue.
How Things Are Shaping Up for 2024
The 2024 Honda Prologue has been a long time coming, and it’s one of those products that proves things can be worth the wait. We don’t know what type of performance the 2024 Prologue’s base powertrain will put out, but we do know it runs on an 85-kWh battery with a single electric motor. It’s safe to assume this combo will pair with a Continuously Variable Automatic Transmission (CVT) of some kind, although this hasn’t been officially announced yet.
This would make sense, however, as Honda’s other two electric-powered vehicles—the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid—both use CVTs and, given that hybrids still utilize traditional engines, the Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid would have been the vehicles to get a regular automatic transmission otherwise; so that also drives home the fact the 2024 Prologue will be one of the more smooth-accelerating Honda vehicles.
Although we don’t have concrete data on the quality of performance the 85-kWh battery with a single motor should pull yet, Honda has hinted you can travel about 300 miles with a full charge. Something that’s been fully confirmed is what type of power output you should see from the 85-kWh battery when it has two motors: with the dual motor setup, the 2024 Prologue outputs 288 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque in all-wheel drive.
So, that’s the performance side of things, but let’s talk about another reason why drivers should care about the 2024 Prologue… We’ve already spoken in great detail about its powertrain, but let’s talk about the charging process itself—more specifically, the simplicity of charging your vehicle and how fast the battery takes to charge.
The 2024 Prologue is expected to regain 65 miles of range after only ten minutes of charging with a DC Fast Charger. Your Prologue will come with a standard 120-volt home charger, but Honda offers what’s known as Honda Home Electrification, which will help you locate technicians who can install a faster 240-volt charger into the side of your house or garage. However, the DC Fast Charging figure can only be expected in urban-strength public charging units and not via home-charging methods.
Your EV charging solutions are looking to be excellent, and Honda is planning to knock it out of the park on its first attempt at a BEV. (For those who don’t know, a BEV is a vehicle that runs exclusively on electricity, so there’s no fuel involved whatsoever, meaning plugging it in for charging is a must.) Home charging is one of the things we’re looking forward to the most with the 2024 Prologue, because who wants to keep visiting the gas station multiple times a week? We’ve been freed of our petrol binds!
Get Excited—A New Chapter Begins Now
If you believe the 2024 Honda Prologue’s release is a big deal, you’d be right. In several ways, the launch of the Prologue indicates a new chapter in Honda’s long history, dating over 75 years. It’s not too far-fetched to say that Honda will release at least a couple more BEVs over the next few years; Honda knew it needed to come out of the gate swinging with the 2024 Prologue to prove its staying power in this newfound market segment that’s quickly stealing the spotlight.
Between the simplicity of charging your Prologue overnight, the high and instant torque, the quiet ride, and the federal tax credit, we are only scratching the surface of why a vehicle like the Prologue is so momentous to Honda drivers—so go and try one soon, and then tell us what you think.
