In the world of compact crossovers, the 2021 Honda CR-V stands out amongst the crowd. Boasting plenty of tech upgrades, this petite SUV has everything you could possibly want in a daily driver. Making its original debut in 2017, this model is relatively new to the market. However, that hasn’t stopped its rapid growth in popularity.

As a compact model, it seats up to five people comfortably. Behind the second row of seating is 39.2 cubic feet of cargo room. You can stash groceries, shopping bags, luggage, and other items safely in the back. However, if you need more room, you can flatten the rear seats to reveal the maximum cargo area measured at 75.8 cubic feet. Thanks to the 60/40 split-folding back seats, configuring the cabin to look however you want is quite simple.

It goes without saying that most people who seek out a compact SUV are not looking for this type of vehicle for the space and size. Typically, this sort of model is popular for its fuel efficiency. Luckily, the 2021 Honda CR-V has quite high fuel economy ratings that urban dwellers will enjoy. Plus, if you commute to work every day, this is the vehicle you need for entertainment.

Safety

When it comes to safety systems and driving aids, no one does it better than Honda. The new 2021 Honda CR-V comes standard with the Honda Sensing Package. This includes a slew of advanced features that are designed to keep you and your loved ones protected on the roads.

Forward Collision Warning and Collision Mitigation Braking

First up in this safety suite is the Forward Collision Warning. Using a series of radar sensors and cameras, this feature will detect oncoming traffic that poses a threat. Audible and visual alerts will prompt you to take evasive action. If no action is taken by you, the Collision Mitigation Braking System will be triggered, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop before impact is made. You can avoid accidents with these handy systems.

Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keeping Assist

Lane Departure Warning and the Lane Keeping Assist System are also included. These two features will let you know if the vehicle begins to drift outside the designated lane. If you do nothing to correct your course, the system will gently steer you back to the appropriate lane.

Auto High-Beam Headlights

Another nifty safety feature included on the 2021 Honda CR-V is automatic high beams. If you are traveling on a deserted highway at night, you may feel inclined to use your bright lights. However, with the Automatic High-Beam Headlights, your car will sense if you need them and turn them on for you. If another vehicle approaches, the systems will turn off the high-beams until the vehicle passes.

Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow

Finally, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow is the final feature in the Honda Sensing suite. Not only does it allow you to set a speed limit, but it also enables you to set the following distance. If traffic begins to slow down, this system will slow your SUV down as well to maintain that following distance. Once traffic speeds back up, the system will also speed up until you are back at your set cruising speed.

There are also other safety systems that are included on various trim levels outside of the Honda Sensing package. For example, the EX model comes with the Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Monitor. These systems keep tabs on other vehicles next to you and behind you. You won’t have to worry about side-swiping accidents or fender benders anymore. If you opt for the EX-L, you will get an added auto-dimming rearview mirror. This innovative feature helps to prevent the glare from other vehicles’ headlights from affecting your eyesight.

Interior

Slipping behind the wheel of a new 2021 Honda CR-V is a great experience no matter which trim level you choose. However, higher trims tend to have better features. Let’s break down each model to see what’s inside!

The LX

The base LX trim comes with manually adjustable front seats so that you and the front passenger can ride comfortably. Meanwhile, the 60/40 split-folding rear seats make cabin configuration much easier. Automatic climate control enables you to choose the perfect temperature setting, and Bluetooth connectivity allows for phone/audio streaming. You can make/receive calls, send/read text messages, and even play your favorite songs via the 4-speaker sound system. As you can see, all of the bases are covered. These features make the LX a wonderful commuter vehicle.

The EX

Next, the EX adds several luxuries that you will love. Starting with keyless entry and push-button start technology, getting your mornings going has never been easier. You don’t have to fumble around for your keys. Just simply have the key fob on your person, and the vehicle will unlock, then you can just hop in and hit the button to start your car without having to pull your keys out. The driver’s seat has also been upgraded with power-adjustability, and both front seats are heated for comfort during the colder months. An additional comfort feature is dual-zone climate control. Enabling you and the front passenger to choose your own personal temperature settings, there won’t be any fighting in the cabin.

Meanwhile, a cargo cover protects your items in the back from prying eyes, and there is even a sunroof that you can open during pleasant weather days. As for the infotainment system, the EX gets an enlarged 7-inch touchscreen interface and extra USB ports for charging multiple devices at once. You will also find advanced smartphone connectivity inside via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Stream your online playlists and use your favorite apps with ease.

The EX-L

Moving up to the 2021 Honda CR-V EX-L will get you a few more luxury touches. The biggest change is the upgrade from cloth upholstery to leather. This subtle material really takes the cabin to a whole new level. Plus, the front passenger seat has been updated with power-adjustability to match the driver’s seat. You will also find an auto-dimming rearview mirror that prevents harmful glares from other vehicles’ headlights. Finally, the last change made to this particular model is the upgraded 8-speaker sound system.

The Touring

At the top of the Honda CR-V line is the Touring trim. This premium model adds several elements that you will go crazy for. First, there is a wireless charging pad that helps to prevent clutter inside the cabin. You don’t have to leave cables out or dig through your console to find a charger. The second major change with this version of CR-V is the integrated navigation system. If you love to travel, then this is a must-have. You won’t have to worry about getting lost in a new area again. Finally, the last upgrade is the 9-speaker stereo. Delivering a high-quality sound, you can enjoy your favorite tunes everywhere you go.

Power Up

To make things easy, every 2021 Honda CR-V is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder motor. Paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT), this powertrain generates 190 hp and 179 lb-ft of torque. This model is also capable of towing up to 1,500 pounds. Front-wheel drive models get an estimated fuel economy of 28 miles per gallon city and 34 miles per gallon highway, while all-wheel drive models get about 27 miles per gallon city and 32 miles per gallon highway.[b]

A Splash of Color

Don't forget to add a splash of color for an extra stylish CR-V. Available in eight unique shades, you can choose the perfect look for your new 2021 Honda CR-V. Your color options include Crystal Black Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Lunar Silver Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, Aegean Blue Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, and Radiant Red Metallic. As you can see, each paint color is either metallic or pearl, which gives the CR-V a glowing finish.

Make It Your Own

Riding on 17-inch alloy wheels, the LX is the base model that is perfect for commuting. If you want to add tinted windows, then you should get the EX. However, the biggest exterior changes come into play on the EX-L and Touring trims. The EX-L adds a power liftgate, which makes loading the back much easier. Finally, the top-tier Touring trim comes with LED headlights for optimized visibility. It even includes roof rails for extra storage space. If you enjoy bringing recreational toys along for the ride, the Touring is your best bet.
