2026 Honda HR-V vs 2026 Chevy Trailblazer
Not all drivers in search of an SUV require three rows and a cavernous cargo hold, fit to haul the Little League team around town. In fact, many require SUVs that are small and agile, yet offer more space than a sedan, all for an affordable price. This makes the Honda HR-V and the Chevy Trailblazer top picks for these types of drivers.
The Honda HR-V offers exceptional reliability and value, plus smooth, refined handling and a spacious interior. The Chevy Trailblazer is a fair contender, recognized for its innovative tech features, cozy cabin, and reasonable price point. So, when it comes to the 2026 Honda HR-V vs 2026 Chevy Trailblazer, which subcompact SUV do you choose?
For its latest year hitting the streets, all HR-V trims come standard with a larger infotainment display, and there are cosmetic upgrades both inside and out to add even more style to this modern SUV. The Trailblazer only gets a couple of updates for 2026, in the form of new paint colors added to its exterior palette. In the areas of comfort, cargo, performance, interior and exterior design, and technology, it's clear that the HR-V is the ideal subcompact SUV for a variety of driving needs.
Comfort & Cargo
Getting Cozy on Board
You’ll find that although subcompact SUVs are small, they don’t skimp on interior space or comfort features. Such is the case with the 2026 Honda HR-V, which showcases a carefully laid-out cabin that’s perfect for everything from long commutes to the office to short trips to the grocery store.
The HR-V offers ample legroom for up to five passengers, along with comfort features that enhance the ride, including heated seats, dual-zone climate control, and body-stabilizing seats that provide optimal lumbar support, making it perfect for long journeys. Unfortunately, the premium feel found in the HR-V isn’t quite as prevalent in the 2026 Chevy Trailblazer, as many of its lower-level trims are filled with inexpensive plastic materials; you have to upgrade to a pricier trim to enjoy slightly more upscale vibes on board.
Cargo Carrying Abilities
Although both SUVs offer a nice amount of space for their passengers, the HR-V goes a step further by showcasing more space for your cargo. Everyone, from parents to commuters, is drawn to models like the HR-V and Trailblazer, which means that these vehicles must be able to carry items such as strollers, groceries, work materials, luggage, and anything else that may accompany these drivers to all their destinations.
The great news is that the HR-V is ready for anything you plan to load inside, offering up to 55.1 cu.ft. of space in its cargo hold with the rear seats folded and a 60/40 split second row that helps you configure your cabin to suit your cargo carrying needs. The Trailblazer offers a configurable cabin with access to folding seats; however, overall space is limited, as the Trailblazer is only able to handle up to 54.4 cu.ft. of cargo. If you want a little more space and an overall more comfortable ambiance inside your everyday traveler, the Honda HR-V is the winner here.
Performance
Enjoying the Ride
If you want to take advantage of a livelier ride, you’ll find it in the 2026 Honda HR-V, which is equipped with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that makes 158 hp to add a bit more thrill to your daily trip to the office. Although speed and excitement may not be at the top of your priorities list, it doesn’t hurt to enjoy a more riveting ride as you make your way to work for another long day. The bad news for the Trailblazer is that, despite offering two engines, neither is particularly exciting to drive.
Its entry-level 1.2L EcoTec turbocharged three-cylinder engine produces only a meager 137 hp, while the upgraded 1.3L EcoTec turbocharged three-cylinder engine generates 155 hp. If you want a more energetic ride without having to upgrade to a more expensive engine (that still isn’t as powerful as the HR-V’s lone powertrain), you’ll want to choose the HR-V to accompany you to all the places you need to go.
Overall Handling
Not only does the HR-V offer a more dynamic ride, with a bit more pep in its step than the Trailblazer, it also offers unbeatable handling, making it a great pick for those seeking out an enjoyable and controlled experience on the road. Its suspension is tuned to perfection, and with all-wheel drive capabilities available, navigating inclement weather or rough terrain is easy, with the HR-V leading the way.
Again, the Trailblazer disappoints here, as its lack of horsepower makes for a bland ride. It, too, can be armed with all-wheel drive capabilities, which definitely come in handy, but its lack of power is glaringly obvious and may make for a rather unsatisfactory ride. If you want ample power and exceptional handling, you’ll want to be behind the wheel of the HR-V.
Interior & Exterior
Cabin Style
There are plenty of trims to choose from with the 2026 HR-V, as well as the Trailblazer, making it easy to find the model that has the style you require for a price you can afford. The HR-V offers three trims on its menu, with top honors belonging to the EX-L, which features leather-trimmed seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as a one-touch power moonroof to let the light shine in. Sport models unlock access to a more athletic feel, featuring black seating material with orange accent stitching that adds an exciting presence to this practical SUV.
All HR-V models showcase a modern design inside, with a honeycomb dashboard design and an open cabin feel that makes this subcompact SUV feel as though it’s larger than it really is. Although you’ll find a nice assortment of trims available for the Trailblazer, you’ll quickly realize that this Chevy offering is not quite as elegant inside as the HR-V. Entry-level models, especially, come with only the basics, including cloth seat trim, hard plastics throughout, and manually adjustable seats. If you want a bit more of an elevated experience, you will need to choose a higher-level trim, like the RS, to be able to enjoy Evotex seating, a flat-bottom steering wheel, and red interior accents.
Exterior Elements
From LED lighting to available 18-inch wheels, the 2026 HR-V is a looker from front to back. Using the laser brazing technique, the HR-V’s roof and side panels are blended seamlessly to make for smooth, sweeping body lines and an ultimately modern appeal. Its honeycomb grille beckons you, while a slim rear spoiler adds an athletic feel to this everyday traveler.
The Trailblazer offers a bit of a different exterior design, opting more for a rugged look, rather than an elegant one. This is fine for some drivers, as the Trailblazer showcases a black mesh grille and functional skid plates on its ACTIV trim and high-gloss black elements on its RS, with its entry-level models being more practical in appearance. If you want a more modern, upscale-looking vehicle, you’ll want to choose the HR-V. The Trailblazer’s more rugged look doesn’t jive with every driver, especially those seeking out a vehicle for everyday use, not one for roaming the trails.
Technology
Connectivity and Entertainment
Both the 2026 Honda HR-V and the 2026 Chevy Trailblazer offer an abundance of top tech to ensure a quality ride. The HR-V comes standard with a nine-inch touchscreen, which offers access to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad resides in its cabin to ensure that all of your devices are charged up and ready for the ride. The Trailblazer also offers smartphone integration, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot on board, and if you want even more tech, top-level models offer it. All in all, both models offer a nice selection of innovative tech, but that’s not enough to choose one model over the other.
Safety Features
Although both SUVs offer their own safety suites as standard equipment, this does not mean that both models are abundantly safe. In fact, the HR-V is the model that’s frequently seen on the IIHS Top Safety Pick list, whereas the Trailblazer is not.[b] If you want a vehicle that’s safe for you, your fellow carpool companions, your kiddos, and anyone else joining you on the ride, you’ll want to choose the HR-V. This outstandingly safe model is armed with everything from blind spot monitoring to collision mitigation features to enhanced camera tech and more to help you remain safe as you embark on your daily journeys.
