| SERVICE TIPS |

|
Driving is an activity that demands our full attention. The holiday season brings its own unique set of challenges. External factors such as inclement weather, stress, and increased crimes of opportunity make holidays a time to practice extra caution. With that in mind, here are some things you can do to enjoy this special time of year, while staying safe.
- Distracted driving is even more of a problem during the holiday season due to increased travel and hectic schedules. When you’re driving, make sure you give it your full attention. Limit your cell phones, adjusting the radio or reading navigation devices.
- Drive defensively. Stay alert and focus on the big picture. Keep your eyes focuses on scanning what’s up ahead of you, not just the area immediately around you.
- Holiday get-togethers, lack of sleep and shorter hours of daylight make drivers more at risk of drowsiness. Get adequate rest, take frequent breaks, allow additional travel time, and split up driving time with a passenger.
- With holiday celebrations, there’s an increase in impaired drivers. Don’t become a holiday statistic. Drink responsibly and use a designated driver if necessary. Be extra cautious when traveling at night.
- Winter weather can change rapidly, making for hazardous road conditions. Check the forecast and road reports in advance of traveling and have alternate plans for bad weather. If you are caught in bad weather, find shelter, and wait out the storm. Do NOT sit in a car with the engine running to keep warm — you put yourself at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.
- Keep your vehicle well maintained; keep tires properly inflated (including your spare). Always carry an emergency kit that includes flashlights, jumper cables, blankets, and basic tools. Make sure family and friends are aware of your travel plans.
- Increased holiday traffic includes a surge of commercial vehicles on the road. Be aware of the large blind spot danger zones behind, in front and to the sides of these vehicles.
- Got new drivers in your family? It’s a good idea to put driving instruction on hold for them during this stressful time of season.
- Crime increases during the holidays. If you shop at night, park in a well-lighted area. Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or cars with tinted windows.
- Place any valuables and packages in the trunk or out of sight. When approaching and leaving your vehicle be aware of your surroundings. If something doesn’t seem right, trust your instincts, and avoid the situation.

| FEATURED RECIPE |
 |
| Spinach-Artichoke Crescent Candy Cane |
Ingredients
1 package (10 oz) frozen chopped spinach
3 oz (from 8-oz package) cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup Progresso™ artichoke hearts, drained, chopped and patted dry (from 14-oz can)
1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Rolls (8 Count)
2 slices mozzarella cheese (0.8 oz each), cut in half
1/4 cup chopped roasted red bell pepper, drained well and patted dry
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning |
Directions
1. Cook spinach as directed on package; drain. Cool 15 minutes. With hands, squeeze excess liquid from spinach. Measure 1/2 cup of the spinach; set aside for filling. Cover and refrigerate remaining spinach for another use.
2. Heat oven to 375°F. Line large cookie sheet with cooking parchment paper; spray generously with cooking spray.
3. In small bowl, beat cream cheese, mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese and garlic powder with spoon until blended. Stir in the 1/2 cup spinach and the artichoke hearts until mixed well.
4. Unroll dough; separate into 8 triangles. With pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each triangle in half lengthwise to get 16 triangles. On cookie sheet, place crescent triangles lengthwise in long row, pointing same direction, with edges overlapping slightly on cookie sheet. Press overlapping edges together to help seal, but leave triangle points free. Add cheese halves on overlapping wide ends. 5. Spread cream cheese mixture in 2 1/2-inch wide strip lengthwise on top of mozzarella cheese. Top with bell pepper.
6. Fold over tips of dough to enclose filling; pinch ends of dough on edge to attach. Gently picking up top end of dough, curve one end of strip to form top of cane. Brush dough with melted butter; sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
7. Bake 14 to 17 minutes or until golden brown. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet. Use spatula to carefully help slide crescent from parchment to serving platter, loosening edges with spatula first, if needed. |
