Summary of Honda Briefing on Automobile Electrification Business. Honda Motor Co., Ltd. held a press briefing on its initiatives in automobile electrification business that included participation of the following Honda executives: Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President and Representative Executive Officer; Kohei Takeuchi, Director, Executive Vice President and Representative Executive Officer; and Shinji Aoyama, Senior Managing Executive Officer. Here is a summary of the briefing follows:

Honda initiative for electrification

Honda is striving to be a company which serves as a source of “power” that supports people around the world who are trying to do things based on their own initiative and that helps people expand their own potential. To this end, Honda strives to realize “the joy and freedom of mobility” by seeking a “zero environmental footprint.”

Solidifying existing businesses

Over the past several years, Honda has been pursuing various initiatives toward the direction to “solidify existing businesses” and to “prepare for new growth” and these initiatives have begun showing positive results in the areas of products, businesses and new technologies. The structure of Honda automobile business has made steady improvement. As of today, the total number of variations at the trim and option level for global models has been reduced to less than one-half of the number in 2018 (Target: a reduction to one-third by 2025). As for cost associated with global automobile production, Honda is on track to achieve its 10% reduction target, compared to the cost recorded in 2018. Honda will continue to accelerate its efforts to generate resources by solidifying existing businesses and invest such resources in electrification and the preparation for new growth.

Unique Honda approach

As the world’s largest power unit manufacturer with annual sales of approximately 30 million units of mobility products including motorcycles, automobiles, power products, outboard motors and aircraft, we aim to realize carbon neutrality for all products and corporate activities Honda is involved in by 2050, striving to eliminate carbon emissions from power sources of a wide variety of products. To this end, Honda believes that a multifaceted and multidimensional approach is needed, not a mere replacing of engines with batteries. Including the utilization of swappable batteries and hydrogen as well as electrification of automobiles, Honda will offer a variety of solutions for all of its mobility products according to how its customers use the products in various countries and regions. Furthermore, with the connected platform, which connects all these elements, Honda will enhance the convenience and efficiency of society as a whole.

SERVICE TIPS

Save at the Pump with Fuel-Efficient Driving Habits. How can you save fuel while driving on hills or when braking in Rochester? When it comes to being fuel efficient, driving habits can make a big difference. Here’s how to be fuel efficient in various driving scenarios, from hills to stop-and-go traffic:

Use Your Momentum On Hills

Increase speed slightly as you approach a hill, then let momentum help going up the hill to reduce fuel consumption.

Accelerate Gently

Pressing harder on the gas pedal uses more fuel. Develop fuel efficient driving habits, like accelerating smoothly from a stop.

Plan Ahead to Avoid Traffic

Stop-and-go traffic is a major fuel drain, and a strain on your car’s drivetrain. If you can’t avoid driving during rush hour, plan alternate routes when possible.

Avoid High Speeds

High speeds are also a fuel drain for your Honda. You’ll get the best possible fuel economy by maintaining a speed of 55 to 65 mph.

Coast to a Stop

Rather than tapping the brake pedal, coast as often as possible. When there is no vehicle in front, remove your foot from the gas and coast to the stoplight.

Use Air Conditioning Wisely

Air conditioning at full-blast can reduce fuel efficiency by up to 20%. Crank it up only when necessary, and try using the recirculate function to conserve fuel.

Tune up / fuel treatment

Keeping your vehicle in tune by checking engine air filter, changing spark plugs when needed, adding a fuel injection treatment every other fill up all maximize fuel economy.

Tire pressures

Check tire pressures (with an accurate gauge) at least once a month and before any prolonged driving (such as a road trip).

Cleaning exterior

Hard to believe a clean vehicle can improve fuel economy, but tests have proven clean vehicles have less drag and result in better mpg.

FEATURED RECIPE

Sent to us by Teresa Carter (wife of Joe Lighthouse in Sales)

Cheesy Savory Oatmeal Ingredients: 1 tablespoon olive oil divided, 2 tablespoon shallots minced, ¾ cup steel cut oats, ½ cup rolled oats, 3 ½ cups water, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded, 1 cup brussels sprouts sliced, 1 large sweet potato peeled and diced, Salt and pepper to taste, 3 eggs depending on your preference, 1 tablespoon hot sauce optional, black pepper to taste.

Directions: Heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat then add the shallots and stir for 1-2 minutes. Next, add the steel cut oats, rolled oats, water, and salt and stir. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and simmer the oats for 4-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. While oats are cooking, heat the remaining oil in a separate skillet, then add the brussels sprouts and sweet potato, and cook over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally until they’re cooked. Note: you may need to add more oil so that they cook faster. Once the sprouts and potatoes are cooked, turn the heat down to low and use a spatula to create a hole in the center of the skillet; then, crack an egg in the center. If you’re cooking two eggs, create two holes. Fry the egg(s) until it’s cooked all the way through. Once the oats are cooked, stir in the cheese until it’s melted, and add black pepper to taste. To assemble: pour oats into a bowl then top them with the brussels sprouts, potatoes, egg, and hot sauce if using. Enjoy!
