Although we are excited about the Honda lineup every year and all of the vehicles it offers, there are certain years for each model that go further and offer a bit more. A great example of this is the 2025 Honda Civic, which has been refreshed with new styling and a number of exciting new options to keep in mind. Not only are there some big additions, but some features and options have been shuffled around a bit, so this model year marks an important one as the Civic continues to impress with each update and new option. Getting the most out of your vehicle requires understanding what is out there and making sure you get a car that perfectly meets your needs. So, let’s take a look at the 2025 Civic and some of the new features and changes that you should keep in mind.
Revised Styling and Updated Looks
The first thing you might notice when you check out the 2025 Honda Civic, particularly if you’re a big fan of this car and have a good sense of how it looks, is the updated exterior. This is not an all-new generation for the Civic or anything like that, but there’s some notable restyling going on that makes it look better than ever. These are generally cosmetic changes, and while they are not especially drastic, if you look at this Civic side-by-side with last year’s model, the updates are quite apparent. These new looks are the perfect way to easily keep track of whether you’re looking at a Civic from this year or one from last year, which is important if you have particular features in mind that you want.
Up front, the headlamps have been revised and updated for the new model year, with sleek, stylish looks that immediately stand out. Not only do these lights work well for keeping the road ahead of you illuminated at night, but they look stunning and add a subtle touch of extra elegance to this stylish car. The modern design with LED headlights is standard on every trim, by the way, so you don’t have to go with a high trim if you’re looking for this enhanced illumination. Honda gave the current-gen Civic a low, wide frame for a surprisingly aggressive stance, and the revised bumpers complement this look perfectly to create a car that you’ll look forward to driving each day.
The New Honda Civic Hatchback Hybrid
One of the biggest updates and additions for this new model year, and the one that we’re probably most excited about, is the addition of a Civic Hatchback Hybrid model for you to check out. While a hybrid engine is no stranger to the Civic, Honda has only offered it on sedan models in previous years. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a Civic Sedan Hybrid, but we always prefer having more options whenever possible. The hatchback version of the Civic is one of our favorite cars out there, and although the style difference between it and the standard sedan isn’t massive, you get significantly more rear cargo space to take advantage of in hatchback models.
Now, you can get that added space and incredible functionality—the hatchback also makes it easier to get stuff in the rear cargo area—with remarkable fuel efficiency as well. Looking at the 2025 Honda Civic Hatchback and its standard engine, you can get an EPA-estimated 30 MPG in the city and 38 MPG on the highway.[a] That’s terrific, but if you go with the Civic Hatchback Hybrid, then you get an EPA-estimated 50 MPG in the city and 45 MPG on the highway.[a] This is a spectacular improvement to gas mileage, particularly if you do a lot of city driving, and last year you couldn’t get this option. We’re incredibly excited about being able to offer you the Hatchback Hybrid model of the Civic, and we can’t wait to show you everything it brings to the road.
A Couple Powertrain Shakeups
The addition of a hybrid engine for the 2025 Civic isn’t the only way that the powertrains for this legendary car are changing for the new model year. For starters, the 1.5L turbocharged engine that was previously offered for the Civic is no longer available. The Civic Sedan and Hatchback still come standard with a 2.0L four-cylinder engine that is paired with a continuously variable transmission and now delivers 150 hp. If you’re interested in enhanced performance, then the aforementioned hybrid delivers 200 hp in addition to remarkable fuel efficiency, giving you a terrific overall driving experience.
In addition to the removal of the previously available turbocharged engine, Honda has also discontinued the manual transmission that was available in the Sport and Sport Touring trims of the Civic Hatchback. While we love the control that a manual transmission provides, there’s no denying that they have become much less in demand over the last couple of decades. We hate to see it go, but it makes sense that Honda wants to appeal to its customers and provide what people actually want. The good news is that you can still get a manual transmission on the high-performance Honda Civic Si and Type R models, giving you enhanced options if you want a car with sporty handling.
Honda Civic Si and Type R Still Going Strong
Speaking of which, we’d be remiss if we didn’t briefly go over the Civic Si and Type R, even though they’re largely unchanged from last year’s models. These models aren’t completely unchanged, however, as you’ll find the same styling updates on the Civic Si that the 2025 Civic Sedan brings to the road. This means you get the same new headlights and revised bumper to beautifully complement its 200 hp 1.5L turbocharged engine. Remember how we mentioned the turbocharged engine was no longer offered on the standard Civic models? Well, you’ll find it here, so the lineup has been simplified to make more sense—plus, you still get a standard six-speed manual transmission to go with it on the Civic Si.
If you like the styling of the Civic Hatchback but want enhanced, sporty performance, then the Type R is the way to go. This model has only been available here in the US since 2017, after decades of Honda keeping it from our shores, so we’re still celebrating everything it offers. The Type R features a stunning 2.0L turbocharged engine that delivers 315 hp, making it an incredible vehicle. The hatchback design makes it just as great a daily driver as it is a sporty weekend machine. You still get a six-speed manual transmission here with Rev-Match Control for enhanced precision and control when you’re driving. It’s the fastest and most powerful Honda Civic ever—what more needs to be said about it?
Are You Ready for the 2025 Honda Civic?
As you can see, the changes for the 2025 Honda Civic aren’t necessarily groundbreaking (this isn’t a new generation, after all), but they’re still noteworthy. The styling updates are perfect and give this gorgeous car a facelift that beautifully accompanies its overall design; getting hatchback functionality paired with the remarkable hybrid engine is the icing on the cake. And with the Civic Si and Type R, you have two amazing options if you want enhanced performance from your compact car. No matter what you’re looking for, the 2025 Civic is ready to deliver; Honda has made things even easier with amazing options that let you choose the body style and engine that work best for you. All you have to do now is decide which model will best meet your needs, and then you can let us handle everything else and get you the perfect car.
